How intent data credits are used
A scan costs 1 credit per topic. If a scan is served from data you already received for that topic, the credit is returned to you.
The Intent data page shows your balance as "X of Y left". Your scans reset each month. When you run out, the page tells you the reset date.
#What uses a scan
| Action | Scans used |
|---|---|
| Run a scan for one topic | 1 |
| Run a scan for several topics | 1 per topic |
| Each run of a repeating scan | 1 per topic |
| Retry a failed scan | 0. The page says "Retrying. It does not use another scan." |
| Apply or change a saved filter on finished scans | 0 |
A topic that is already running is skipped and not started again. If you run out partway through a batch, you see "You ran out of scans before every topic started."
Only a failed scan can be retried. A scan can only be retried once.
#When credits are returned
You get 1 credit back when a scan is served from cached data you already received for that topic. Credits are not returned for the first delivery of that data.
The credit goes back to the same balance it was taken from, free or paid. Your credit history shows an entry with the description "Repeated delivery of the same cached intent data". The refund happens once the scan is finished (Done).
Your total usage goes down by 1. Your usage for the month only goes down if the credit was charged in the same month as your last monthly reset.
Tip
A repeating scan on a topic can return its credit when the data has not changed since your last delivery.
#Free and paid credits
Your intent data balance is two balances added together: free credits and paid credits. Paid credits come from your subscription. Each paid renewal invoice adds the credits for that renewal once.
A $0 invoice that starts a trial does not add the recurring credits. If a Stripe subscription is cancelled, it is disabled, but credits already granted are kept.
What appears in your credit history?
The credit history records each change to your balance.
| Entry | Description |
|---|---|
| Subscription renewal | "Stripe subscription renewal" followed by the subscription ID |
| Repeat-delivery refund | "Repeated delivery of the same cached intent data" |
| Manual adjustment | "Intent data balance adjusted by an administrator" |
Each entry shows the number of credits and your balance afterwards.
