Filter leads by job title and person details
Combine a job title list with the profile choices (seniority, department, gender and country) to find the right roles and people in the Leads database.

#Filter by job title
Add titles to an include list to find people with those roles. Add titles to an exclude list to drop roles you don't want.
- Each list takes up to 20 titles.
- Each title can be up to 200 characters.
- Titles can't be blank or contain control characters.
#Similar titles
Similar titles is on by default. It adds common variants of the titles you include.
| You include | Also searched |
|---|---|
| CEO, CFO, CTO, CMO, COO or CRO | The full title, for example Chief Executive Officer. The full title also adds the short form. |
| VP or Vice President of a function, for example "VP of Sales" | "VP Sales", "VP of Sales", "Vice President of Sales" and "Vice President, Sales" |
| Founder or Co-Founder | Both Founder and Co-Founder |
After expansion, you can search at most 20 titles. If you go over, you see this error:
Use fewer titles or turn off similar titles (20 expanded titles maximum).
Turn off similar titles, or include fewer titles, to fix it.
Tip
Turn off similar titles when you want only the exact wording you typed.
#Filter by person details
Some fields offer a fixed set of choices. Use the values exactly as listed.

Seniority and department each come in two lists with different wording. Use the one that matches the people you want.
Country codes are converted to upper case, so us and US give the same result.
#Include, exclude and presence
Most fields work the same way.
- Include finds people who match any of the values you choose.
- Exclude removes people who match the values you choose.
- Presence limits results to people who have the field on file, or who are missing it. This works only on fields that support it.
If you pick an unsupported field for presence, you see: Choose on file or missing for a supported field.
If two availability filters contradict each other, you see: Conflicting availability filters. Choose either on file or missing.
#Exact or phrase matching
Filters match exact values by default. These fields can also match a phrase:
- job_title
- company_name
- work_history
- education_history
- company_description
- social_connections
work_history, education_history, company_description and social_connections use phrase matching by default. Any other field supports exact matching only. If you choose phrase for one, you see: This field supports exact matching only.
#Limits
| Limit | Value |
|---|---|
| Values per include or exclude list | 20 |
| Included and excluded values across all filters | 200 |
| Keyword query length | 500 characters |

Going over 200 values across filters gives this error: Use at most 200 included and excluded values across filters.
Going over 20 values in a list gives this error: Use a list of at most 20 values.
